Grease Monkeys was originally made for BBC Choice, which later re-branded to BBC Three. It starred Archie Panjabi (East is East, Bend it like Beckham) as Rita, Ahsen Bhatti (NCS Manhunt, Cardiac Arrest) as Dave, Marc Zuber (Shirley Valentine) as Mo, Indira Joshi (Kumars at No. 42) as Jasbir, Jake Wood (Lenny Blue) and Nicky Ladanowski (Paradise Heights).
The drama series was written by Harwant Bains (Wild West, Two Oranges and a Mango) and is based on his successful Radio 4 series of the same name. The characters of the show all work in the family business, Grand Trunk Garage in Manchester.
The garage is owned by Mo, who spends his time worrying about his beautiful daughter Rita, an ace mechanic who is obsessed with cars and the garage and has no interest in boys, fashion or make-up, let alone finding a nice Asian boy to settle down with.
His son Dave (Ahsen Bhatti) is a sexually irrepressible, irresponsible, minor criminal. He runs the sales side of the business - mostly into the ground. Mo also has to contend with the ghost of his dead wife Jasbir (Indira Joshi) and a talking dog.
BBC Three have not yet announced when the new series will be broadcast on TV.
