BBC Radio and Asian Network get logo face-lift
13th August, 2007
A new family of radio idents will be appearing from this week across the BBC and on external sites such as iTunes. The corporation began work on a new generation of logos in March this year with the view that the old logos mixed different generations of design.
They have all been given a more consistent and modern feel.
A BBC spokesperson said the old logos looked "tired and old and not doing justice to the brands".
Fallon, the agency that designed the Asian Network's new logo said: "The important points when re-designing Asian Network's brand logo, were to the reflect the heritage and the future face of Asian Network's modern content. We also wanted to give Asian Network an equal billing amongst the rest of the radio portfolio."
"So the simplicity of the new design makes it feel modern when used with the Radio 1 and 1Xtra logo, yet the 'fabric swoosh' in the 'A' is about adding a touch of heritage. It was designed to feel just as at home promoting Bobby Friction's cutting edge night time music show as it would Devotional Sounds."
The new logo went live for the first time at London Mela yesterday and on Asian Network's website.
The archive provides a glimpse into the BBC's television and radio archives regarding the two countries. It includes snippets such as the speeches made as two new countries rose from the ashes of the British Raj; key BBC shows from the past; Mark Tully's perspective on India, and more.
