Nitin Sawhney looks forward as Philtre tour nears end
7th October, 2005

Nitin Sawhney, preparing to wrap up his Philtre tour next Friday, has been in the studio working with on music with Will Young and Raghav for their next albums.

The acclaimed musician has also been signed up to score Mira Nair's next film - Namesake - an adaption of the Jhumpa Lahiri novel. The film will be out next year in America.

She chose Sawhney to compose the score after seeing him live at Shepherd's Bush Empire. The movie stars Bollywood princess Tabu alongside Irfan Khan (The Warrior), Zuleikha Robinson (The Merchant of Venice), and Kal Penn (Harold and Kumar Get the Munchies).

He co-wrote and co-produced 'Home' for Will Young, which features as the closing track on his new album.

Young says: "Working with Nitin was a wonderful, inspirational experience. He has so many sounds and ideas, and doesn't write thinking about radio play or things like that while he's working. I have really fond memories."

Sawhney's Philtre UK tour has seen guests from the Spanish collective Ojos de Brujo also join him on stage.

On working with Raghav, he told AIM: "He's a lovely guy - very energised and very positive. We created a new track called 'Seasons,' drawing heavily on 'Mausam', which appears on the Philtre album and features Reena Bhardwaj.

"I'm really pleased with the results. He sounds great on the record and I'm really excited to see how the fans will react."

Since its release, Philtre has won plenty of plaudits from critics in the press. The Guardian called it his "most assured, relaxed and successful work yet", while the Times said it was his "most free-flowing, natural and effortlessly impressive album to date!"

The Philtre tour finishes at Koko, Camden, on 14th October
