Nimita Parmar leaves Media Moguls for new pastures
18th February, 2005
Account Manager Nimita Parmar spent her final day at the agency this week, as she leaves the company to get married.A well known name in Asian media, the journalist and Media Moguls media executive also worked at the BBC Asian Network and Asian Woman magazine before starting at Media Moguls in August 2003.
She started her career in 1995 as an editorial assistant at XL magazine, moving on to becoming launch editor for Feng Shui For Modern Living magazine and then associate editor at IndiaWeekly newspaper.
She told AiM: "I can honestly say that working at Media Moguls has been fun and exciting and yes there have been times when the stress and pressure has been quite intense, but which job isn’t like that.? It’s all worth it in the end especially when you see the fruits of your labour."
"I’ve had a great time and made some wonderful friends."
At the agency she looked after clients such as Diageo, the Greater London Authority, Daewoo and the World Health Organisation. She was involved in promoting Bombay Dreams, and the films Bollywood Queen and Kisna.
She recalled one of her most amusing experiences when organising the Mela 2004. "I remember it was really really manic in the office, we were frantically trying to put together press packs for journalists and organise media crews and interviews. I answered a call by a prospective exhibitor who wanted to know about booking a stall at Mela. I told him it was too late to be booking a stand literally one day before show starts. But He was adamant that he have stall and to make matters worse, he wanted us to pay for it!! You can imagine my utter disbelief at his sheer audacity!"
"So it went on, until eventually I could not keep a professional tone and I had to hang up on the man. As I was telling my colleagues about the incident, another call came through from Adil Ray at the BBC Asian Network. That's when the penny dropped and I realised I was the victim of a prank call. I was utterly mortified that i got caught and that it was going to be played on air. However I finally did see the funny side of it!"
Nimita said she was leaving because marriage would take her up to the north. In a few years she hopes to return back to London.
She added: "I haven’t quite decided what I will do yet, but the options are already there in journalism, specialist PR or radio. Being an inquisitive person by nature, it won’t be too long before I get stuck into the next role."
"Although I’m sad to be leaving London, I can’t wait to take up the next challenge in the North."
