What does the word desi mean to you?

Hello everyone,

I'm researching a feature on what the word desi means to different people. I'd love to hear your thoughts. How was it first used? Do you use it in everyday conversation? Do you think the general public are aware of it or understand its connotations? Please email me at deepajourno@hotmail.com. You don't have to reveal your identity if you don' t want to - if not, an age, profession and where you live are enough. Thanks so much.
