Wedding caterers

by naheem
01:59pm - 29th January, 2006

Does anyone know of any decent asian wedding caterers, the complete package - making food, delivering at venue, providing waiters and waitresses, all of which is good quality and reasonably priced. Got a wedding to sort out soon so any help will be appreciated.

Many Thanks.

sapna is probably the best, plus they are the only ones who do halal food.

Depends what you're looking for, we struggled to find a caterer as we are only having 90 guests (miniscule compared to usual asian weddings!) But we've gone for Bombay Bicycle Club, not your traditional spicy indian food, but well cooked, delicately spiced indian food, and they can offer the whole package at a very reasonable price (they've only recently branched out into catering). And even though the food isn't very spicy you can obviously specify any changes you want, the guy who looks after this side of things is lovely too, we met him last night for a tasting.

However, stay away from Laguna, we went to wedding catered by them, food was nice but service was not. Being a vegetarian I couldn't have 2 out of 5 of the dishes, so thought I could have slightly more of the veg options....not so! I was given one kofta and tiny amounts of the side dishes.

Also we went in to speak to them about our wedding catering (before we discovered BBC) and then a couple of weeks later went in just for a meal, and the service was dire, the beer tasted like urine (according to my Mr to be) and the wine tasted like it had been diluted down with water. To top things off they had the nerve to add a service charge for only 2 diners!!!

I've been to alot of weddings catererd by Laguna and they seem to have done very well every time. Madhus are good too. Alot of hotel venues seem to have their own list of caterers and i'm sure reputed hotels only keep the good quality caterers so choosing a caterer that has alot of hotel venues may be a good way to choose.

We've had Madhurs twice at the Hilton NEC in the past few months and they've been ok for the cost.
Also had Maharaja catering recently at my mates party in Leicester and I was very impressed for a night before party, these guys really went to town with the presentation, service and food quality.
I got to say I was a little upset with the Hilton NEC (Mudhurs)at my cousin wedding a few weeks ago as for what he paid, the waiters were unattentive, bored and never came back with refills. Did not complain as I did not want to upset the bride/groom but it did pi** me off at the though of what the Hilton were charging and delivering.

Riba's in Ilford, essex

Don't use as they will ruin your whole
event, I paid for full event
management - my event manager
disappeared the whole time the event
was going on. The food was cold,
the staff looked like they were 12
years old and had no manners. I
had no bar and had to send friends
out to buy my alcohol at 4pm on a
sunday afternoon!!!!! It was a
disaster!!!!!!!

They don't know the meaning of
"Event Management".

I've once come across maharaja catering from Leicester, There food was excellent. I was amazed in the quality food. They had a chocolate fountain which was amazing. There fruit display looked brilliant with a large swan display and surrounded with little tea light candles.
10 out of 10. I do recommend these guys if you're after quality. I have only seen them once so not sure if they are still around.

Recently we had the wonderful opportunity, to attend a wedding outside of London, at a very rural location. The food was catered for by Passage to India of Heston and was fronted by their top man, Tosh Jassy. The food was amazing, staff trained to be helpful, and service obviously under observation, the high level of professionalism was apparent from start to finish. This guy and his team just breezed through a crowd of 400, at ease whilst serving all the food courses. Most caterers, just serve the food in a hurry to get the service out of the way. Each table was personally, visited and greeted by the front man. Wow you just can't beat the personal touch!! Highly recommended.

Highly recommended!!
