I actually dont see why not, but then chubby non asian models have a tough time, and i dont think the asian fashion industry is as open minded as west fashion industry ... i think some of these asian magazines should do a real women issue actually im copyrighting this idea!!

ushio do u have curves? is that why u r supporting curves?:-)

I do!But I personally could do with making them look more aparent. loosing weight would be a starter.

I have given up on loosing weight.I just can't. I need to be super active to loose weight.

oooh Dove adverts are a great example Sandy, now that's what I'd like to see more of, real women of all shapes and sizes and ages and races - the emphasis being on "real".

my hubby was telling me because of those ads, sales for Dove products have gone through the roof now!

I think more of those ads are great. the new woman they have in the special k ads is very curvy and big too. but toned, she looks great!

How about trimming down and trying to make it that way?

I don't mean it in a mean way but it's not about your wishes to model, it's about who the audience wants to see.

Ushi, you *know* you're not remotely CHUBBY! So well corrected, curvacious...

However much guys keep saying they like a woman to look like a WOMAN, can you ever imagine you and me on the front cover of Asiana?!

(a very sexy cover we could make it too!!!)

There are agencies who specialise in plus-size models. There are obviously quite limited opportunities in this field though, and since there aren't a great deal of asian models in mainstream modelling I guess there are even fewer in plus-size.

Why not Ushi? all you can do is try! If you're interested contact a plus-size agency and take it from there! There is more of a market for plus-size in the States.

Ushi to be totally honest with you... I think that you do have a chance of making it.
Ok well maybe not catwalk but then again saying that i have walked the ramp with a few girls that have had far much love handles bulging out.
But you can definately try to do magazines and most of the bridal pages only do headshots of models so all you really need is a pretty face.
Offensive? Report it.   back to top

11:52pm - 4th October, 2006mercedes10
Princess - having a pretty face simply isn't enough. Regardless of whether or not a shoot only ends up taking a head-shot, agencies want the full package - meaning the right height and size. There are enough pretty girls who fit all the criteria so they really don't have to bother with people who don't.

Ushi - you're actually an odd size for modelling - too large for regular fashion and actually too small to be plus-size!

Mercy... yeah i thought that.. isn't plus size 16 +?

And Im defo not going to go and put on the weight jsut for a lttle modelling!

Princess... Indian clothing stores don't cater for ladies with larger bossoms... you;re looked at strange and then told we have to make you a made to meassure... I don't ever feel that fat until i go into an indian store!

i thought all Indian suits were made to measure. my ex was "commercially perfect" when it came to body proportions but she still had to have made to measure...so dont feel fat in indian shops Ush.

i dont know why they dont have
chubby models but not obies thats
not healthy. I dont know why fashion
just focuses on lean models. i like
women with a bit of chunk its sexy.

I dont know why anyone rich hasn't
brought out a magazine with just
asians.

Its just making are minds narrow to
what is beautiful

See the problem i see here most of the times is that these girls seem to think that they can actually hit the mainstream knowing that they are not all bones covered by skin, they are not anywhere near being 5 8" tall and want to be th enext kate moss or adriana lima.
Come on girls seriously how many asian models do u know that have hit the mainstream market and actually made a name for themselves?
unfortunately i can only name a few not even a handful...
So in all honesty get that thoughts out of your heads and if you think or desire to get into modelling just for fun then the only chance you have is getting into the asian industry.
so ushi thats why i was refering to you being able to to bridal shoots for magazines and i was not refering to vogue or elle as such...
but asiana or asian woman or viya.

asian models these days need to be fed...they're obviously missing out on something that is known as 'food' anyway....my point...doesnt matter how fat or thin u r....beauty comes with personality!!!!!!
Offensive? Report it.   back to top

01:03pm - 26th October, 2006mercedes10
djnush - I agree that beauty ultimately comes from within, but the discussion here is about modelling - and by definition models needs to fit a certain height/weight/size criteria! It's not like we're going to get to know the girl on the cover of a magazine is it?!
Offensive? Report it.   back to top

04:36pm - 26th October, 2006djnush
mercedes10 you have a point...but....still i reckon people would appreciate it if we had a few normal looking girls on the cover of a magazine. Not girls who look like they're in the stages of anorexia and what not.For a model...being a size 6 is damn right dumb. Im a size 8/10.....im no miss perfect and neither are these models...they're the ones who look awful in real life!I mean cmon all the make up is slapped on...they starve to death just cz they have to look good on a front page mag......isnt it about time we get some natural beauty and natural figures coming into the scene??
Offensive? Report it.   back to top

04:41pm - 26th October, 2006mercedes10
Djnush - I don't disagree with you. The modelling world is very superficial and fake. It's all an illusion. Nonetheless, I don't think the fashion world is about to change. Also, much as people say they want to see 'normal' women on the covers of magazines, the statistics I'm sure just don't add up. There must be research done in this area - and I'm pretty sure the magazines featuring beauty and glamour and/or celebrity on their covers are the ones that sell more. Designers want their creations on skinny girls because they simply look better on them. I'm not saying I think it's right, but it's just reality. That said, Dove have done wonders with their 'real beauty' campaigns!

yea ur right....its the stereotypical view of the front cover of a magazine...and ur right about the fact that the magazine will sell well and it does no doubt!i dnt knw....i wanna do something about this whole fakeness....it annoys me,theres real and natural beauty out there being wasted!!

The plus-size model got chucked out of America's Next Top Model last night...

Even if it wasn't for her lack of self-confidence (ironically, probably caused by the same industry) could she have ever won in her wildest dreams anyway?
