September 13th this year marks 13 years since the death of a true icon.

With a deserved biopic due to be made in 2010 lets hope the memory of this gifted artist is given a accurate and layered approach, much like its subject.

That's just my opinion

Aww Sapna, thats cool. It is ofcourse yr entitled opinion. :)

I dont think it was v sad how he died, I mean if u predict something enough its sure to happen.

Its jus sad that he had a v bright future ahead of him and when he died that rawness that rap was so well known for died with him...i think.

Check this for freaky:

'In the event of my demise when my heart can beat no more.

I will die for a principle or a belief that I lived for.

I will die before my time because I already feel the shadow's depth.

So much I wanted to accomplish before I reached my death.

I have come to grips with the possibility and wiped the last tear from my eyes.

I loved all who were positive in the event of my demise'

He wrote that when he was only 17.

Was shot five times in a failed 'robbery' , survived then was shot again in Las Vegas (1996) v close to the strip after a Mike Tyson fight.

And no one saw a thing- he was 25 years old.

The Highest selling Hip Hop artist ever (according to Guiness Book of Records) and a legacy of over 400 tracks (released and unreleased) is quite an achievement, i think

Hip hop is a true form of music, its roots lie in punk.

Rebelling against the status quo..who the fuck are you to say its any different?

Yes, maybe ur right, nobody cared for tupac before he died, but thats usually the case for some the world's greatest people: Van Gough, Jimmi Hendrix, John F Kennedy, Che Guevara...as Biggie once said:

'You're nobody til somebody kills you'

Have some respect for other people's opinions.....and u call me self righteous?!

"Hip hop is a true form of music, its roots lie in punk."

Surely you mean FUNK!!??
Or are you telling me Jonny Rotten inspred the likes of Afrika Bambata, LL Cool J, Run DMC.

Hip Hop is a derivative form of music, that's a fact. It's just full of samples of other peoples music.... where is the creativity in that..

As for fame after... your examples show your ignorance. Hendrix was hailed a genius when he was alive. By the entire Western Rock gliteraati.

And were you aware that JFK was actually voted in as president of the USA BEFORE he was assasinated... DUH!!!... that would make him pretty famous, no?

I'd respect your opnionions if they were'nt so moronic.

"Hip hop is a true form of music, its roots lie in punk."

Oh dear, its like being back at skool here....let me explain:

Hip hop and Punk are very similar, for one they deal with oppression of agents of social control.

NWA- Fuck Da Police

Sex Pistols- God Save the Queen

Secondly, they deal with the theme of how someone who is nothin, then becomes something....true underdogs (I'm afraid this is not reflected in hip hop these days)

I think Kurtis Blow (KRS One) said it best:

'Rappers spit ryhmes that are mostly illegal.

MCs spit ryhmes to uplift their people'

They were also a reaction to the prevalent musical styles dominating the music scenes of their times.

Punk as a reaction to tired and boring rock music , Rap to Disco and the domination of Black music by white business.
Both styles also possess a similar exuberance and a desire to shock and scandalise.

They both seek to empower youth and to challenge the status quo

And thirdly, well you're a prick, need I say more? :)

When I read your original statement, I laughed so hard my sides split. But the fact that you are trying to back it up with your ridiculous argument shows that you are incapable of being a man and admitting mistake. Oh no… you have to try and cover it up with bullshit. That makes you INSINCERE. Perhaps you should join the Labour party, I hear they are looking for token Asians like you.

To say Hip Hop has it’s roots in Punk is not just ignorant but plain disrespectful to a form of music which you worship. Hip Hop is a Black American music form… and you are telling me that it has roots in Punk… which is as White English as it gets!!???

You would be laughed off any Hip Hop forum.

Here are some FACTS on the birth/roots of Hip Hop.

- Hip Hop started in the 1970’s as a result of Kool Herc’s legendary bloc parties in New York. Not by NWA who hail ‘outta Compton’

- Grandmaster Flash is attributed to creating the term Hip Hop. He was producing music whilst Chuck D was in diapers.

- Punk was a reaction to Prog Rock and rebelled against it’s multi chord epic arrangements with short, loud, 2 to 3 chord songs.

- Hip Hop was certainly NOT a reaction to Disco… because it sampled it. Hip Hop was NEVER a ‘reactionary statement’, like Punk. It was always a celebration.

- Hip Hop always relied and still does on sampling and looping the music breaks of other records. Usually from the genres of Soul, Funk. & even Disco. But now even from Rock, Classical etc. Without the genius of real musicians like Clyde Stubblefield, Bootsy Collins, Herbie Hancok, Rick James, Fred Wesley, James Brown etc etc…. HIP HOP WOULD BE NOTHING

- Acts like NWA and PE who bought a more political edge to Hip Hop, started out in the mid 80’s… that’s wayyy after the birth of Hip Hop. They were a new branch… but certainly not the root.

- Punk was about anarchy and sticking two fingers up at the monarchy. Hip Hop at it’s most political, was about fighting black oppression… slightly different ethos there

- Members of PE & NWA now take part in crass reality shows, B movies and adverts.

See… idiots like you take one aspect of Hip Hop – the more violent, bullish form and hijack it for your own means. Hence your name – THUGlife

The final fact is this:

You a are a incompetent, Asian rude boy who so desperately wants to fill his vacuous life, that you turn to a form of music which doesn’t even reflect it… or tell me… is the white man oppressing you in your Mum’s house in West London?/?

You fuckin’ baseball cap wearing, baggy jeaned 2nd rate Ali G.

The whole punk/hip-hop thing comes
from that embarrassment to all self-
respecting punks Malcolm McLaren
who still, to this day, insists he
invented hip-hop. I think it's the Filth
an the Fury where he sits there, with
no irony, and claims something like (I
paraphrase): 'I was in brooklyn
(detrot?) and I saw these black
fellows playing records by other
people and mixing them together to
make their own sound. And I thought:
this is punk. Soon after, I came out
with Bjuffallo Girls and hip-hop as we
know it was born.'

Then it cuts to Johnny Rotten
saying: 'Malcolm McLaren is a cunt.'

I'm not out to get at Thuglife.
Everyone's entitled to appreciate any
music they like. I personally hate
Tupac and blame him for
singlehandedly turning hip-hop from
hard-hitting angry/ bounce around for
fun escapism, to the r&b shite about
money and girls it is today. But that
doesn't mean you can't like him,
whether you're a disaffected black
youth growing up in the brooklyn
hood or not.

Kismet, you too are also right (Kuris Blow). But I dont agree with your views on Tupac's role in the change of hip hop...but thats yr opinion and yr entitled to it.
