Tarique ghaffur

by thuglife
11:04am - 29th August, 2008

So,

Super Asian cop Tarique Ghaffur is still making headlines and demanding more cash from the Met over 'racism' claims at the hands of Sir Ian.

Its an interesting story, especially since Alfred John of the Met's Black Police Association has said that Ghaffur's claims are not 'an isolated incident'.....ya think?!

It just makes me laugh how the Met have responded, I know the press have taken this out of context, but essentially they told him to shut up and get on with the job.

Yea Tarique, shut up dude, and keep being the Met's Kuta!

Institutional racism has existed as long as anyone can remember, maybe as long as that culinary abomination that is....Chicken Tikka Masala!!

But jives and jests aside, its funny, yes funny to see that Asians, being in this country for 40/50 years now still encounter this type of racism!

I know the Asian and mainstream press have been all over this story, like ticks on a donkey!

Even in positions of power, we still are viewed as second class citizens..

But, I want to hear your thoughts on this....

Bro, we gotta see this from a range of views not a singular one.

1. Yep racism has existed, yep its evil etc but what have we as a collective done about it? Not enough. Today, ethnic minorites (specifically Asians) still arent joining up the ranks in the numbers they should be (I say should be cos anyone who knows me, knows I rather be the change than jus complain about it) plus real change comes about from a culture shift...i.e. more numbers of ethnic minority recruitment will ensure this.

2. Public perception of police is they are all racist etc but to be frank guys, I see the other side and the race card gets proper over played, and by the wrong crowd, so when the genuine peeps make this point, cynicism comes into play....a problematic cycle.

3. Upper ranks of Police - though Home Office pushes them to be more pro ethnic, we gotta remember, a lot of those racist 80's cop, didnt go anywhere, they moved up the ranks through career progression and now they are the 'glass ceiling' phenomena. Thereby they are the ones that Tarique is facing now.

Asian cops across the country dont get the best deal in the world, but adding racism to it does kinda make it a tougher ride.

Should he play the race card? In an ideal world the moral stance would be NO. Are we in an ideal world where morality is given a fair chance? No....

Point? It takes extreme measures and actions, to deal with extreme situations and people.

Nuff of boring ya! ;-)

Spoken like a tru pig...i mean cop. ;)

Sounds like you recited that from a textbook, but after careful digestion and a lil sobering up I understand where u are coming from.

We are only starting to see what happens among the ethnic officers in senior ranks in the police force. The army however, thats a different story altogether. Give it a few more years, tribunals, tribunals, tribunals for everyone!!

I think Tarique is right in what he is doing and i commend him, he has sum balls. I just get the feeling that this is only the tip of the iceberg......

you know, you never know what to believe sometimes as the media tend to fabricate and sensationalise a lot of things.

but what i can't help but wondering, maybe he was sidelined from promotion because he simply wasn't capable of the job? maybe he is just using the race card out of spite

i don't know if anyonre recalls, but a few months ago, a muslim girl in headscarf sues a hairdresser for racial discrimination because she refused to give her a job. the girl later cried rascism and won compensation due to 'hurt feelings' yet it was also revealed in court, that this girl had no proper training, refused to abide by certain health and safety rules and oh, was in fact rejected by 20 other salons.

Now, if had any bit of sense, she would have understood, that she was rejected on the grounds of her lack of capabilities rather than the colour of her skin.

yes, rascism does exist, but why the need to keep using the race card? have people within the ethnic minority become so fickle? Pathetic

Veer, i see and agree with what you're saying , but in this context, I find it a diffcult stretch of imagination that a senior ranking officer of the met would resort to the antics you've described.

Ill say this much though, if people STILL think we've got it bad here, then travel the world a bit more and you'll see that we actually arent being "pariah'd" the way the press seems to highlight. The other thing is it's always the asian tabloids that tend to do it, for various reasons.

Racism and bigotry are apparent everywhere.

Let's be happy that in the UK at least there are mechanisms to recognise it and eradicate it5.

Back home, this is what happens:

Yea good point Mola,I guess being born and brought up in the UK you forget that other countries have it worse.

I did get that feeling in Dubai when I was working out there! That place treats Indians like second class citizens... especially in the construction industry!

The caste system is soo wrong,we cant we all just smoke a bong!?

Untouchable gangsta thug!
