... you don't happen to have an online copy of your manifesto do you?

I'm in need of a good laugh.

Yes as a matter of fact I do....

Not so much a manifesto, but a set of guidelines....I dont do POLITICS:

1) If you have worked in the Asian Media industry for over 6 months refuse to work for free!

2) Be aware of ignorance in Asian companies, challenges these, wherever possible.

3) Qualifications do not always guarantee you a place in a company. Usually depends on the company,

4) Remember, Asian Media is a stepping stone in the career ladder. Get what you can and move on.

5) As pointed out in point 4, moving on to a mainstream company entitles you to better working enviroments, pay and benefits, unless you work for the BBC, you would just be a 'token' then.

6) The 'this is the way we have always done it' approach is a crock. Use your unique understanding of your culture and sub cultures to create a fresher, less condascending and more well rounded approach to creating a 'New Asian media'.

7) Make sure you are being paid you're worth. Beware of expolitation.

8) If you ever meet Mola Ram, I suggest you do something terrible to him, you would have Carte blanche. If you not the confrontational person, just avoid at all costs!

More to follow when I can be bothered and have got the time!

interesting.

I wont get embroiled in the debate about asian media etc, but i WILL say that if youve got talent , drive and ambition- and a healthy aptitude for thinkign out of the box- there is a lot of stuff on the net and so on to get some decent paid work. You have to deliver quality wise and make sure youve got your business head screwed on properly, but there's always stuff out there. I got my "gigs" via the 'net and PLANNING it all out a bit. The rest is down or up to your luck and the lap of the gods.

Good luck to all :-)

so, with your little manifesto and your little ideas, where have you got?

and this stepping stone that you refer to, where exactly is it a stepping stone to? and which organisations would you advise me to apply to where i can go mainstream, get perks and not just be a token?

Thug,

I agree with all of that (except number 8).

Good on you for pin-pointing how we could improve things.

The problem arises howwever because for every one person that will agree with you, there are 5 desperados who will just take the job..

Not all Asian Media businesses are run to a 'desi' mentality though. The best thing to do is either work for one of the few proffesional Asian outfits.

Or just stick it out in the mainstream.

Mola, its refreshing to see for once you have taken what I have written seriously, yes those are the choices.. what about changing this for the better 'internally'?

Or you can start your own company, show these unprofessional mofos how to do it!

Thug, we hurl insults and it's all good humoured banter as far as I'm concerned.

Without sounding patronising, I too had the same ideals a while back. But one person can't change the system. And in these apathetic times it's hard to rally round.

Look at this website (AiM) for a perfect example. It started out as a refreshing overview.
But it pretty soon got mired in media politics, personal agendas and obvious editorial bias.
