Author, poet and film-maker Nikesh Shukla has a short story collection in podcast form: titled Wham! Bam! Stories, Man!
Shukla says he was inspired by the oral tradition of griots and felt the podcast format was good instant and current way of bringing his voice to the world.
Episode 1 of the podcast, a story called ‘Rap Tape’ is an extract from the book he is currently working on, ‘Coconut Unlimited’ and tells the tale and Amit and his supercool cousin Neel, locked to their grandma’s tape player, hearing Public Enemy for the first time and deciding to replicate the sound.
“What ensues is a hilarious coming of age tale about rapping, learning, listening, problem-solving and not believing the hype,” he says.
Nikesh Shukla’s writing has been featured on BBC2, Radio 1 and 4, Resonance fm and BBC Asian Network, and has performed at the Royal Festival Hall, Apples and Snakes, Soho Theatre, The Big Chill, Rise Festival, The London Mela and Glastonbury.
He also had a folk poetry album out in 2008 called ‘Kidologies and Amazing Fantasies.’
