A London based model has made her debut in the Bollywood film Love Aaj Kal alongside actor Saif Ali Khan.

23 year-old Poonam Mehmi (pictured) got the part through an agency, but came to prominence after being crowned Miss India Worldwide UK earlier this year.

She has a small role in one of the songs.

She told the Manchester based Asian News newspaper: “I was called to go for a casting. There were so many girls who had gone for the part but two days later I was told that I had got it.”

It took her half a day to shoot.

An increasing number of British Asian models are trying to make a name in the cut-throat Bollywood film industry.

She said she had also been offered a part in another Bollywood film that would start shooting in November.

“It’s going to be a bigger part. The agency was looking for a British Asian actress and I went for it. In the meantime I’m also enjoying modelling and the opportunities that have come from it this past year.”
