Brick Lane actress stars in new Indian film
October 3, 2009

Brick Lane actress Tannishtha Chatterjee (pictured) is starring in a new film doing film festival rounds across the world.

Road, Movie recently became the only Indian feature to be invited as a special presentation to the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.

The Hindi language feature is made by director Dev Benegal and stars the actor Satish Kaushik (also Brick Lane) alongside Ms Chatterjee.

Road, Movie centres around Vishnu, a restless young man who rejects his father’s faltering hair-oil business and hits the road with a travelling cinema. He drives an antique Chevy with two old film projectors across the Indian highway discovering love and life along the way.

It now heads towards the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) in Roppongi Hills on 21 October.

It is produced by Ross Katz and Susan B. Landau. Katz earned an Oscar nomination for Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation. Landau’s An Ideal Husband starring Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore and Minnie Driver closed the 1999 Cannes Film Festival.

The company financing the film, TIFC-Studio 18, is also making Gurinder Chadha’s next film: It’s a Wonderful Afterlife.
