Mihir Bose, the respected sports journalist, abruptly resigned from the BBC today. He was one of the top journalists at the corporation – employed as its sports news editor.
The former Daily Telegraph journalist took up his position January 2007 and had been there since.
A BBC spokeswoman today did not offer any reasons for why he abruptly resigned other than to say: “[He] has resigned for personal reasons with immediate effect.”
Mihir Bose He was the BBC’s first sports news editor, according to the Press Gazette, to expand its sports coverage and to offer analysis and insight to major sporting stories.
A source told the Evening Standard’s Amar Singh that: “Mihir had grown deeply unhappy about the move [of BBC offices to Manchester] and felt betrayed. He was given assurances when he joined that he would be able to stay in London.”
“His wife runs a very successful consultancy and the vast majority of his contacts are based in London so he couldn’t see the sense in the move.”
Mihir Bose was born in India and started journalism in the UK at LBC radio. He moved to the Sunday Times and then the Daily Telegraph in 1995 where he launched the ‘Inside Sports’ column.
He has won a number of awards including: Business Columnist of the Year, Sports Story of the Year and Sports News Reporter of the Year.
