The BBC’s new head of religion Aaqil Ahmed takes up his post on Monday 6th July.
The date of his start at the BBC has been highly anticipated given the controversy surrounding his appointment.
During the selection process Ahmed’s name come under significant criticism from many in the right-wing press, especially the Daily Telegraph, for a supposed bias against Christians.
He was also the subject of a campaign by the controversial Christian lobby group Christian Concern For Our Nation, which had urged its member to write to the BBC objecting to his appointment on grounds that he was Muslim.
Despite the criticism, the BBC selected him as its new head of religion. He has yet to make a statement on his appointment or the selection process.
His last day at Channel 4 was on Friday 3rd July.
