Various British Asians, in the media and elsewhere, will be honoured by the Queen according to the New Years Honour list, released last week. [full list below]
Most notably, Dr Anita Kumari Bhalla (pictured), currently editor of Public Space at the BBC, is being honoured with an OBE for services to broadcasting.
Ms Bhalla has had a long career at the BBC, including as head of Political and Community Affairs for the English Regions and and as community affairs correspondent for BBC News. She was also a presenter at Channel 4’s Eastern Eye and a member of the Independent Commission on Social Justice.
Lakhbir Kaur, also known as Lucky Dhillon, was also awarded an OBE for services to Asian broadcasting and to the media industry. She previously produced and presented the Sikh programme ‘Amrit Vela’ on Spectrum Radio and won the Asian Women of Achievement award in 2007.

Anis Rahman, for voluntary services to Bangladeshi people.
Uday Kumar Dholakia for services to business and to the community in Leicestershire
Asha Khemka, principal and chief executive, West Nottinghamshire College. For services to education.
Kumar Muthalagappan, managing director of the Pearl Hotels and Restaurants Group

Enam Ali, for services to the Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant industry
Pradip Kumar Datta, founder, Wick Surgical Courses. For services to medical training.
Prof Jagdish Dave, for services to education and to Asian people.
Zafar Iqbal, chairman of governors, Bordesley Green Girls’ School, Birmingham. For voluntary services to education
Dr Surinder Singh Jolly, general medical practitioner, Manchester. For services to healthcare.
Narendra Mehta, for services to visually impaired Asian people
Dr Shiv Pabary, general practice dentist, Newcastle and Gateshead. For services to the NHS
Tamsila Tauqir, for service to the British Muslim community
Chitra Bharucha for services to the Animal Feed industry
