New publisher wants ’subversive’ writers
June 28, 2008

A new publishing company going by the name of ‘Revenge Ink’ has launched in the UK to challenge the conventions of the mainstream, highbrow publishing industry by showcasing cutting-edge works from “subversive” new writers.

Two siblings – Amita and Gopal Mukerjee founded the company to “promote strong voices and take on emotionally driven and inspiring projects”, and to “encourage edgy ‘outside-the-box’ thinking”, they said.

The two Mukherjees say they hope to provide Revenge Ink as a platform to publish cutting edge works that reflect the world we live in, rather than conform to expectations or stereotypes, based on ethnicity or religion.

Amita Mukerjee, managing director, said: “The hallmark of Revenge Ink is to present new types of narrative that are edgy, progressive and bold.”

They started by publishing their debut novels through the company.

“Our novels, The Armageddon Mandala and Ugly Duckling, have a scabrous straight-talking tone and voice-driven approach that most mainstream publishers wouldn’t readily touch and through Revenge Ink we want to publish new and subversive writing from other independent-minded and creative authors.”

Amita grew up in India, the United States and Britain. Her first book, Ugly Duckling is a frank and sardonic look at life as an interpreter in Paris. Her second book is due out later this year.

Gopal Mukerjee is a writer, born in Mumbai and has lived in India, Britain and the United States. His first book, The Armageddon Mandala, is an anarchist, comedic fantasy fiction tale about a slacker PI who finds himself in the middle of a planetary holocaust.
