The prestigious Indian newspaper Tehelka is holding its annual India-Pakistan forum next week at London’s Royal Society of Arts. The event will host prominent political, cultural and opinion leaders from India and Pakistan to debate issues from the two countries.
Organisers say: “The last year has been critical for Pakistan. A period of intense turmoil, military dictatorship, and the assassination of one of its most prominent leaders has given way to a renewed bid for democracy and modernity – driven by civil society and an exhilarating people’s movement. It is a potent moment for new conversations about and between the two countries. What direction should such conversations take? What global impact will they have?”
Titled India & Pakistan: Designing a New Future, the event will feature 35 speakers including Imran Khan, Aamir Khan, Farooq Abdullah, Fatima Bhutto, Sherry Rehman, Jaswant Singh, Mohammed Hanif, Lt. General (Retd) Asad Durrani, Kamila Shamsie, Karan Johar, Ziauddin Sardar, Tariq Ali and others.
It will take place on June 26th and 27th.
“Their combined future is of crucial interest to all the major nations – particularly Britain and the US which have large multi-ethnic and multi-religious populations,” the organisers say.
