Ethnic marketing specialist Pink Kiwi is hosting a media conference this week, titled: Minorities in the Media: A United Solution. The two-day event, which will take place in London on the 28th and 29th of May will be hosted by broadcaster Henry Bonsu and BBC presenter Mishal Hussain.
Pink Kiwi’s managing director Shy Rabbani hopes the conference will examine how the growing proliferation of media outlets affects Britain’s ethnic minorities.
Participants at the event include Raj Kohli, chief inspector at the Met Police; Jam Mokrzoicki, president of the Federation of Poles in Great Britain, journalist Saba Zaman; Dr Abdul Bari, secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain; producer Mukti Jain Campion; Jeremy Dear, general secretary of the NUJ; and many more.
“How does this war on words affect the ever growing ethnic minority groups in the UK? With over 15 million ethnic minority groups – due to increase by 15% by the year 2010 – does the mass media present and represent them?” asks the organisers to the event.
“Many believe that the media’s ever increasing influence on public opinion has given it the power to manipulate the mainstream populations views and opinions, which has in turn led to increased racially motivated attacks.”
“This ground breaking media conference explores the complex topic of minorities in the media and discusses a united solution for the very first time and sets that stage for a unique collection of voices to share their ideas and opinions on this very current and controversial issue.”
