Nearly 18 months after Poorna Shetty left the building for thelondonpaper, Asiana magazine has finally appointed a new editor, it told AIM Magazine this week.
23 year old Anisha Vasani, a recent graduate in Journalism from Southampton University, will become editor of both Asiana and Asiana Wedding from the current summer issue. She had already been with Asiana prior to being promoted.
Editor in chief Shihab Salim told AIM Magazine: “Our magazine is aimed at young, stylish, party-loving career women with a fascination for fashion, beauty, gossip and men! We’ve been on the hunt for an Editor that represented all those things, but had the writing ability, eye for a story, organisation skills and dedication to match.”
“Anisha is exactly the person we’ve been looking for shes energetic, enthusiastic and has full passion and desire for everything she does and her true dedication to the magazine will continue to raise the platform for Asiana,” he added.
Ms Vasani has had previous experience working for Heat magazine, Daily Mirror, Cineblitz, BBC Watchdog, X-Factor and Closer magazine. She was also briefly presenter for Yarr Radio.
She said: “To be offered the role of Editor at such a young age seemed daunting at first, but the previous Editor Poorna Shetty who was Editor of both Asiana and Asiana Wedding at the age of 24 pointed out that a magazine that caters for a certain type of reader has to have an Editor that represents them.”
“I’m honoured to feel I’m seen as someone that can step into those shoes. I’m here to keep the magazine lively, vibrant, forward-thinking, taboo breaking and just a lot of fun. We’re a loud and proud Asian woman’s magazine I’m happy to be just that!”
