Blast Films is looking for talented, up and coming directors who are ready to make the step up to directing their first 30 min documentary for the Channel 4 First Cut strand.
Ideally they will be at senior AP/Location Director level OR have non-network PD credits OR have made short films OR assisted on major projects. The subject matter is very open, but all the films must be both populist and innovative.
The films need to be kooky and quirky ways into the underbelly of Britain and – starting from a small or personal entry point – say something about how we live now. Successful films from last year’s strand include ‘Being Maxine Carr’ about women who have been mistaken for Maxine’s new identity; ‘In Search of Mr Average’ – finding the most average person in Britain and ‘Karaoke Soul’ which intercuts performance with gritty actuality in a northern town. There’s a lot more information to be had by searching ‘First Cut’ on the Channel 4 website.
After an initial development period, a flat fee of £5K is available to each director of a commissioned film. The films need to be delivered by August and would be executive produced for Channel 4 by Blast! Films.
